Small Taylorsville Club Maintains Big List of Community Activities

Talorsville_ShellTaylorsville Rotary (www.taylorsvillerotary.org) has been busy! In November the 30-member club provided a van-load of supplies to the local Domestic Violence Resource Center, then made a $500 donation in December.

On December 1 members fulfilled the club's quarterly grocery delivery to 26 needy families referred by Social Services. Each family gets at least four bags of groceries in each delivery.

On December 4 the club organized and conducted a fundraiser called the "Reindeer Romp/Elf Trot." The event even managed to feature snow to aid the runners in developing their Christmas spirit!

Funds from the race and other donations provided funds for the "Bill Shell Memorial Shopping Spree," which provided $100 worth of presents for 35 needy elementary children. The club also provided gift cards for 80 needy middle and high school students.

Taylorsville continues to provide backpacks of food for 250 needy elementary school children each weekend, and has recently begun to provide backpacks for needy middle school students. The club is working with the social worker at Alexander County's only high school to set up a food pantry to provide food for high school students and their families.

In addition to these activities, under the leadership of President Jean Reid, the club also supports United Way, the Boy Scouts, the Hiddenite Center for the Arts, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity (workdays and donations), the Laura Laws Scholarship, and CVCC Foundation Scholarships. Members work closely with our local Interact Club, and Interacters attend regular Rotary luncheons. The club will send two Interacters to the 2011 Seminar for Tomorrow's Leaders. Taylorsville Rotarians also continue to display American flags throughout our community on all federal holidays.

Talorsville_GAPIn January a Taylorsville member will go on a mission trip to Guatemala to help install stoves in the homes of needy Guatemalans. Taylorsville Rotary will fund two of the stoves.
